Let’s talk about the pros and cons of having a backyard wedding! If you are on the fence about having a backyard wedding then these are great to consider. Sentimental? Absolutely, yes! Simple and easy? Not necessarily! There is honestly no place like home! But unfortunately, not all homes or backyards are exactly equipped to host 100+ people! Let’s get into it a little more! In my opinion, these are my top 3 Pros and top 3 Cons of backyard weddings!
The beautiful part about having your wedding in your backyard is that there are absolutely no vendor restrictions. You can have whatever food you want, have your ceremony and reception on any part of your backyard, and can celebrate for hours on end with your loved ones!
Many backyard weddings include sentimental value and are familiar to my clients! The best part of backyard weddings is that you will always be able to see your backyard and remember the memories. Every day you get to reminisce on all that happened during your wedding day. Plus, a lot of couples already have lots of good thoughts revolving their own backyards or their families backyards, which means they will be more comfortable!
When you are planning your backyard wedding you don’t have to pay for the crazy, pricey venue costs! This is awesome because you can use that high expense (that would normally go to the venue costs) into other sentimental moments on your wedding day. Or you can even just save money! In my opinion, it’s a total win, win situation!
Unfortunately, with the fact that your backyard isn’t exactly equipped for a 100+ wedding, or even a 50+ wedding means that you have to get your backyard ready for the big day! Your must-have items are tables, chairs, dinnerware, napkins, table linens, place settings, barware, portable bathrooms and a tent. All of this combined can definitely start to add up fast. When creating your plan for your backyard wedding make sure to factor in all of the rental costs!
All the permits can cause some issues! You will need to make sure you have approval from the city and get a fire department inspections. Make sure to bring in an electrician to inspect your area. You will also want to find out if local noise ordinances require a permit or place restrictions on noise. Additionally, make sure to check if you need to file for a permit to park cars along your street. The last thing you want is cops crashing your wedding!! Getting all of these things in order is going to help relieve the stress and make sure everything is in place!
Unexpected weather can cause for some unfortunate disruption during your backyard wedding day. Usually venues will have indoor spaces for the rainy days. In this case, you will want to make sure you are either comfortable with the possibility of rain happening during your ceremony/reception or that you have a tent ready! Always plan for the worst case scenario to make sure that you are prepared.
When planning your backyard wedding it is important to take into consideration all of the pros and cons of going this route! Having a backyard wedding is an amazing ideas and can create so many special memories forever and feel extra personal! I love backyard weddings!
